The lack of updates, whether you want them or not, is largely due to the fact that things are running a little crazy right now. Jennifer is getting ready to leave for another four-week trip to Oaxaca on February 15th, and that alone is a pretty big distraction.
So quick note today. Considering my last post regarding the President’s State of the Union address and the record setting profits enjoyed by the oil companies, CNN is reporting that Exxon records its biggest annual profit ever. And if that isn’t enough, there’s more good news:
Exxon Mobil Corp. Thursday reported the biggest annual profit on record for a U.S. corporation - earning more than $75,000 every minute of 2006 on the back of record oil prices.
The world’s biggest publicly traded company by revenue posted net earnings of $39.5 billion on revenue of $377.6 billion last year, topping its previous profit record of $36.1 billion in 2005, which at the time was the largest for any U.S. company.
That’s worth repeating - $75,000 for every minute of 2006. And by the way, while that $39.5 billion is a record profit, it is only $3.5 billion more than Exxon’s reported earnings for 2005, for which Exxon’s CEO Lee Raymond was paid nearly $400 million upon retiring.
Some ethical folks working in the oil business. They make J.R. Ewing look like Desmond Tutu.
