We’re back from our four-day trip to Yosemite National Park. If you haven’t visited Yosemite, and I hadn’t until this trip, you really should. It’s quite the amazing place, even if the waterfalls were fairly dry - a rarity even for this time of year. Still, it was nice to get away from the laptop and the cellphone for a few days - and I even enjoyed our hike up Lembert Dome. And I’m not exactly what one would call a “hiker”. Anyway, it’s back to the grind…
Photos from our trip are here.

Jennifer received word that a friend of ours passed away unexpectedly last night at the age of 31. I think the shock of it hasn’t quite set in yet, and we’re still very much in that stunned phase, just trying to process the news. I don’t feel entirely comfortable in revealing too many details of the situation, as, again, it is still pretty fresh and we’re still not entirely sure what, specifically, happened. But suffice it to say, I’m fairly certain that this all could have been avoided if we had affordable health care in this country.
On a personal note, I’m also convinced that dealing with the passing of friends and loved ones does not get easier over time. I think it gets harder. And while life does, and should, go on - it doesn’t make a tragedy like this any easier to comprehend. I consider myself a fairly level-headed, rational person (doesn’t everyone?), but trying to wrap my head around this takes some serious effort on my part. I understand that “these things happen”, but we don’t have to like it. And I guess, at some level, we don’t have to understand it. It is what it is.
Why does that feel like a cop-out?
Anyway, as I said with Bill’s passing, do yourself a favor and hug a loved one.

Our dear KCSB colleague, Bill “Billy Clarke” Savoy, passed away this morning. I’d just like to pass along my condolences to Bill’s family. As a wrote earlier, Bill was a tremendous part of the KCSB community. He hosted the very eclectic and outstanding KCSB music program, Music Soup, edited some episodes of KCSB’s Santa Barbara Lecture Series, and was generally one of our more dedicated volunteers. Beyond all of that, he was simply a great guy.
Goodbye, Billy Clarke. You will be missed.
